A walkway made of solid concrete is an attractive way to connect all of your outside spaces, provides a safe and accessible route through your yard or property, and adds curb appeal to your property as well.
Quincy Solid Concrete designs and installs concrete walkways that are functional in handling pedestrian traffic, blend with your landscaping, and provide you with added usability to your property. Whether it be a formal entrance walkway or a meandering garden path, our walkways are long-lasting and will continue to serve you for many years. We build our concrete walkways with both practicality and quality of craftsmanship, allowing them to endure the harsh New England climate.
We install various types of concrete walkways to meet different needs:
Front Entrance Walkways: The wide, formal path from a driveway or street to your front door welcomes visitors and creates an attractive, safe route to enter your home.
Side Yard Paths: Provide functional routes between your front and backyards to allow for utility access, storage, or outdoor living space use.
Garden Paths: A winding concrete garden path allows you to view and enjoy your plants and protects them from foot traffic.
Pool Access Walks: Slip-resistant surface is used to connect a pool area to your home or other outdoor spaces.
Public Sidewalks: Municipality-installed concrete sidewalk(s) on the frontage of your property that are compliant with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act), local codes, and regulations.

Paths and walkways around your house improve property flow, protect your home’s foundation. Concrete walkways allow for easy clean access to every area of your home and prevent mud paths; also, they help keep water from your foundation. We will create a complete walkway system to make sure each area of your property is connected in an organized way. Width, curve, and finish will be carefully planned to assure the functionality of the path and the attractiveness of the path as well.
Professional concrete paths and walkways construction ensures long-lasting performance:
Layout: We will mark the location where we are going to build the path, make sure the path is wide enough, and align the new path with the surrounding areas.
Extraction: Remove unsuitable materials to the appropriate depth to create the desired grade.
Preparation of Base: We compact a layer of gravel to allow for drainage and to prevent settling.
Installation of Formwork: The formwork is set up so that there will be an even amount of space on each side of the pathway, and the proper edges can be created.
Reinforcing: Wire mesh or fiber reinforcing helps prevent cracks in the concrete from forming.
Pouring Concrete: We will place the quality concrete mixture into the forms, and then smooth out the surface as much as possible.
Final Finish: The finish you want will be applied (texture) to improve both the look of the pathway and provide a good grip.
Control Joints: Control joints are strategically placed to help control how the concrete expands and contracts to minimize random cracking.

When you choose to include concrete walkways in your garden design, it is important to carefully think through each detail of how to integrate them into your overall garden plan. We will either work with what you already have in your garden, or we will work with a landscape designer to develop an outdoor space that has some continuity and harmony between your indoor and outdoor living areas. A walkway can be used to define individual garden rooms, direct visitors to a focal point such as a fountain or a seating area, or even allow for easy maintenance of plantings. The curves of walkways can add a level of mystery and slowly introduce visitors to different garden elements. We can also create a “stepping stones” effect by alternating the placement of each path section, create a border around the path to add visual interest, or incorporate contrasting textures to further distinguish the character of your garden.
We make sure we do a good job of installing our concrete pathways/walkways through an effective process. The first step is evaluating the site; assessing if there are any issues related to water (drainage) or elevation (grade), as well as any underground utilities. We also make sure the proper base is in place to help prevent settling, which can cause unevenness of the surface. In addition to the base preparation, we also take into account the proper amount of slope on the pathway/walkway so that it has sufficient pitch for water to drain off, yet is not so steep that you have trouble walking on it. As for control joints, we install them approximately every 4-5 feet to manage cracking. Finally, we apply a suitable finish to the surface based on where it will be located and how it will be used.
